Paul

You know, I really like the Apostle Paul. I don't think we could have dated each other if I lived near his house a couple thousand years ago. We are both cut from the same fiery cloth, but I know I would have wanted to listen to him for hours.

I have been really slow in my Bible Study. Taking my time. Mulling things over. Soaking it up. I discovered the order that theologians believe Paul's epistles were written in. I am reading them in order. I want to observe how Paul was growing in his walk and his wisdom.

I've been camped out in 1 Thessalonians for almost two weeks now. It is so wonderful to hear about the churches beginnings. To witness mentorship and discipleship. So awesome.

This is really grabbing me now..."Do not put out the Spirit's fire, do not treat prophecies with contempt. Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil." I Thess. 5:19-22

Holding on to evil is like a fire extinguisher to the Spirit in us. Testing everything allows me to discern the good from the evil. If I am holding on to good, my hands have no room to hold on to evil too. When we have been wronged, we often hold onto it. It is easy to do... but then our hands get so full they can't hold anything else. No peace. No Joy. And you can't work when your hands are full of the darkness of this world. But try holding God's good character, faith, obedience and trust. God's work always gets done! I want to learn to let things go. I may be on this lesson for a few more months. :) Just sayin'.

So, in this season of sutdy, I'm lovin' Paul! An amazing mentor and friend to my Spirit. Try reading his letters in order and watch HIS journey inspire yours!

Tina,

Great post. I gave a message twice last week about holding onto un-forgiveness. We truly do hold on to way too much sometimes...and we do quench Holy Spirit by doing it.

A couple of years ago I did an in-depth study of the book of Hebrews. Took me months to complete it. It is a tough book but really fascinating. Most scholars believe that Paul actually did NOT write Hebrews, which was news to me. I always just assumed he did.

Have a great week.
